Complete Size Guide for Indian Women's Fashion
How to measure yourself, find your perfect size in coord sets, jumpsuits and dresses, and ensure every piece fits beautifully.
Getting the right size in online fashion is simultaneously the most important and most anxiety-inducing part of the shopping experience. You can't try it on. You can't feel the fabric against your skin. You're making a decision based on numbers and descriptions — and in Indian women's fashion, sizing has historically been wildly inconsistent across brands.
At 29threds, one of our core design principles is that sizing should be straightforward and honest. Our coord sets, jumpsuits, and dresses are designed for real Indian women's bodies — with measurements and fit recommendations that actually make sense.
This guide walks you through finding your perfect size, understanding how different pieces fit, and knowing exactly what to expect when your order arrives. No guessing. No second-guessing. Just clarity.
Step 1: Take Your Measurements Accurately
The most common sizing mistake is measuring incorrectly. You need three measurements: bust, waist, and hip. Here's how to get accurate measurements that translate to the right size.
Measure across the fullest part of your chest, keeping the measuring tape parallel to the ground. Don't pull tight — leave a finger's width of ease.
Measure at the narrowest part of your waist, typically about 1-2 inches above your belly button. Again, minimal tension — no squeezing.
Measure across the fullest part of your hips and bottom, keeping the tape parallel and relaxed. This is usually 7-9 inches below your waist.
For dresses, measure from your shoulder down to where you'd like the hemline. For coord sets and jumpsuits, individual pieces are sized by width, not length.
Measure yourself in front of a mirror wearing minimal or no clothing. Have someone else hold the tape if possible — it's difficult to get an accurate reading while holding the measuring tape yourself. Write the numbers down immediately so you don't forget them.
29threds Size Chart: Coord Sets, Jumpsuits & Dresses
Here is our complete sizing chart across all garment types. All measurements are in centimetres. If your measurements fall between two sizes, scroll down to our "between sizes" guidance.
| Size | Bust (cm) | Waist (cm) | Hip (cm) | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 80-84 | 64-68 | 88-92 | Petite, slighter frame |
| S | 85-90 | 69-74 | 93-98 | Small to medium frame |
| M | 91-96 | 75-80 | 99-104 | Medium, average build |
| L | 97-102 | 81-86 | 105-110 | Large, fuller figure |
| XL | 103-108 | 87-92 | 111-116 | Extra large, generous fit |
| XXL | 109+ | 93+ | 117+ | Plus size, accommodating ease |
Important note: 29threds sizes are designed to fit true-to-size with appropriate ease built in for movement and comfort. If you measure exactly 91cm bust (the boundary of S/M), you're comfortably in the M size. The ranges above have built-in overlap because bodies are not geometric shapes.
Understanding Fit by Garment Type
Different garment types fit differently — even within the same size. Here's what to expect from each of our core pieces, and how to ensure the right fit for your needs.
Coord Sets
A well-fitted coord set should look intentional and comfortable — not tight, not drowning. Here's what to expect:
- Top: Should skim your body without clinging. You should be able to pinch a small amount of fabric at the side seam (about 1-1.5 inches). Shoulder seams sit at your natural shoulder point.
- Bottom: Sits at your natural waist (not hip-hugging). You should have enough ease through the hip and thigh to move comfortably. For palazzo or wide-leg styles, expect generous ease that allows for layering underneath.
- Length: Coord set bottoms are designed as ankle-length (about 40-41 inches from waist to hem). If you're under 5'2" or over 5'8", note this when ordering and message us for length adjustments.
Jumpsuits
Jumpsuit fit is more nuanced because they're a single piece. Here's the breakdown:
- Fitted jumpsuits: Should skim your torso without pulling or gapping at the shoulders. The waist seam aligns with your natural waist (or sits slightly lower if designed that way). You should be able to sit, bend, and raise your arms without restriction.
- Wide-leg jumpsuits: Designed with generous ease. The top sits at your natural shoulder; the legs have a relaxed, flowing fit that's forgiving through the hip and thigh. These typically have 2-3 inches of excess fabric at the hip for movement.
- Length: Jumpsuit length is engineered to hit at the ankle for a standard height (5'4"-5'6"). If you're shorter or taller, we can adjust — message our team during checkout or after ordering.
Dresses
Dress fit varies significantly by style. Check the individual product description for specific fit guidance, but here are general principles:
- Fitted dresses: Should follow your body curves without pulling or gapping. Wrinkles radiating from the bust or waist indicate too-tight fit.
- Relaxed/shift dresses: Designed to skim the body. These have 2-4 inches of ease built in, so they should not look baggy — they should look intentionally relaxed.
- A-line or flared dresses: These are forgiving through the hip and thigh. Check the waist fit primarily — the hem is designed to fit generously.
What If I'm Between Two Sizes?
Real Indian women don't fit into neat boxes. Many of us are between sizes in one measurement or another. Here's how to decide:
- For fitted coord sets and jumpsuits: Choose based on your bust measurement first. The top fit is the most difficult to adjust after purchase. If your bust says M but hip says L, choose M and we'll ensure the hip has enough ease for comfortable movement.
- For relaxed or wide-leg styles: Sizing up is often more comfortable. Wide-leg coord set bottoms and jumpsuits are designed with ease, so going up one size in an already-relaxed silhouette usually just means better movement, not oversize-ness.
- For dresses: If between sizes, check the style. Fitted dresses → size up. Relaxed/A-line dresses → size down. This counterintuitive logic comes down to how ease is built into each style.
"The right size is the one that lets you forget you're wearing it — and start enjoying your day."
How Different Fabrics Fit and Feel
Fabric choice affects how a piece fits as much as the cut does. Our complete fabric guide covers this in depth, but here's the quick version for fit:
- Cotton: Minimal stretch; fits true-to-size. May shrink slightly (less than 1 inch) on first wash if not pre-shrunk — we pre-shrink all our cotton.
- Rayon/Viscose: Drapes beautifully with slight movement. Fits true-to-size but feels less structured than cotton, so wrinkles are normal and part of the aesthetic.
- Crepe: Structured fabric with minimal stretch. Fits true-to-size and holds its shape reliably wash after wash.
- Linen-blend: Slight natural variation in weave; fits true-to-size but relaxes slightly with wear and washing, which is part of linen's charm.
All 29threds pieces are pre-washed and pre-treated, so shrinkage is minimal. That said, always wash in cold water and air-dry for the longest life and most consistent fit.
Body Type Considerations in Sizing
Not all body types fit into standard sizing the same way. If you haven't already, read our complete body type guide to understand which silhouettes work best for your proportions — this will help you choose pieces that fit well beyond just the size number.
For example: a pear-shaped woman might be a size M based on bust measurement, but find that our wide-leg coord set bottoms in size M provide the proportional balance she's looking for, rather than a more fitted silhouette in the same size.
Fabric Care: Protect Your Fit
- Wash in cold water on a gentle cycle to minimize stress on fibres
- Turn printed or embellished pieces inside-out to protect the design
- Air-dry in shade — direct sun fades colour faster than any washing machine ever will
- For delicate pieces (rayon, crepe), hand-wash is gentler and extends the life significantly
- Avoid tumble drying — heat can damage fibres and affect fit over time
